Wallabies flanker George Smith has committed to Australian rugby beyond the 2011 World Cup by re-signing with the Australian Rugby Union and the ACT Brumbies for a further two years, the ARU said
Friday.
Smith, 28, said the lure of playing at the next Rugby World Cup
in New Zealand was a powerful driving force behind his decision to
stay and play in Australia.
"The opportunity to play at another World Cup was a huge
motivation," said Smith, who played in the 2003 and 2007
tournaments.
"It's always a privilege to be in the Wallabies jersey and my
goal is to be in it as long as I can.
"It also comes down to coaching, lifestyle, family and the
opportunity for financial security.
"I was never looking at this as being a straight financial
decision."
Smith, who made his Test debut against France in Paris in 2000,
has played 96 internationals and is rated as one of the best
flankers in world rugby.
